FAQs
What is Shilajit and where does it come from?
Shilajit is a mineral-rich, tar-like exudate that seeps from high-altitude rock—formed over centuries from decomposed botanical matter and microbial action. It’s traditionally sourced from mountainous regions (notably the Himalayas) and used in Ayurveda as a rasayana (rejuvenator).
How is Wild + Well-Fed Shilajit different from other shilajit products?
- Our shilajit is sourced from true Himalayan origins, never imitation or low-altitude varieties. Unfortunately, most of what’s on the market today comes from Russia or China and lacks proper verification. We refused to settle for that. Every batch of Wild + Well-Fed Shilajit is third-party tested for purity, heavy metals, and mineral content, ensuring you’re getting the real thing in its most potent form.
- It contains no fillers or additives - no maltodextrin, no binders, and nothing hidden on the label. Just pure, unadulterated shilajit.
- We also chose a gelatin capsule form for a reason. The taste of shilajit can be a deal breaker for many people (trust me, I’ve heard it from clients for years). We wanted something easy to digest, simple to take, and still incredibly effective. After months of testing, we found that powdered shilajit in capsule form is just as potent, if not more, than the resin.
- We package it in amber glass bottles, never plastic. This might seem like a small detail, but it makes a big difference. Shilajit is highly reactive and can actually melt into plastic when exposed to heat. We don't want shilajit with a dose of plastic! We used to bring it on hiking trips and it ruined many backpacks melting and leaking through packaging. Glass protects its integrity.
- 650 mg per capsule - Through years of working with clients, we found that 500–1000 mg daily gives the best results for energy, mood, recovery, and hormone balance. Our capsules contain 650 mg of pure Himalayan shilajit, the sweet spot for most people. That means just one capsule per day to meet your daily needs. Athletes or those under higher stress can safely take more, but one capsule daily is ideal for foundational mineral and mitochondrial support.
What are the main health benefits of taking shilajit?
It is packed with over 80 trace mineralsand contains a hefty amount offulvic and humic acidswhich support cellular energy production, acts as powerful antioxidants neutralizing free radicals, helps detoxify toxins, environmental chemicals and heavy metals, supports gut health and enhances nutrient absorption. Because it’s formed under intense pressure at high elevation, shilajit contains unique compounds that support oxygen utilization, stamina, and hormone balance.
It’s been shown to naturally boost testosterone, enhance fertility, improve recovery, and increase strength and endurance in athletes.
- Cellular energy & mitochondria: Fulvic-rich shilajit supports mitochondrial function and ATP production
- Hormone support (in men): A double-blind RCT (250 mg twice daily for 90 days) increased total and free testosterone and DHEAS in healthy men 45–55. PubMedWiley Online Library
Is your shilajit lab-tested for purity and heavy metals?
Yes—every batch is tested for heavy metals (like lead, arsenic, mercury, and cadmium), microbes, and potency (fulvic acid content). This matters: analyses show raw or poorly processed shilajit can contain unwanted metals or microbes; experts advise choosing independently tested products and reviewing COAs. Cleveland ClinicPubMedBioMed Central
Does your shilajit contain fulvic acid, and why is that important?
Yes. Fulvic acid is considered a primary bioactive in shilajit. It enhances mineral transport across cell membranes, provides antioxidant activity, and shows neuroprotective mechanisms in vitro (e.g., inhibiting tau aggregation). Human outcomes research is still emerging, but fulvic content is a key quality marker. PMCNews-MedicalPubMed
Can women take shilajit, or is it just for men and testosterone?
Women can use shilajit for its mineral/fulvic profile and cellular-energy support. The strongest clinical hormone data to date involve men (testosterone RCT above), while women-specific trials are limited. Because shilajit may influence hormones, women with hormone-sensitive conditions should check with their clinician first. Cleveland Clinic
Why did you choose capsule form of shilajit?
- Precision: Consistent, standardized dosing (no guessing with resins).
- Purity: Easier to verify identity and contaminants batch-to-batch.
- Practicality: Neutral taste, portable, less mess. These factors help ensure you get the intended dose with documented testing—important given variability
When is the best time of day to take shilajit?
Most people do well in the morning or early afternoon with food, since shilajit can feel energizing. Sensitive individuals should avoid taking it late at night. There’s no universal “best time,” so anchor it to meals you’re consistent with. However, some people do find it helps sleep at night so experiment!
Can I take shilajit daily, or should I cycle it?
Daily use as labeled is appropriate for most adults. You can consider it your daily mineral and detoxification supplement.
Some choose to periodically pause (e.g., 8–12 weeks on, 1–2 weeks off) to reassess how they feel mainly a practical approach rather than an evidence-based requirement. If you’re on medications or managing a condition, clear daily use with your clinician first.
How long does it take to notice results?
Timelines vary by goal and baseline status. In the men’s hormone RCT, measurable changes appeared at 90 days. Energy and recovery effects may be noticed sooner, but plan on 4–12 weeks for a fair trial. If you don't notice anything that does not mean it's not working behind the scenes!
Is shilajit safe to combine with other supplements or medications?
It can interact with health conditions or meds (e.g., blood pressure, blood thinners) just check with your doctor first if any of these are a concern.
Are there any side effects of shilajit?
I have not had any clients have a negative reaction to shilajit in the past 8 years of practice .
Reported effects are usually mild and infrequent: GI upset, headache, dizziness, or throat irritation. Rare events and case reports exist. Stop use if you experience adverse effects and consult your clinician.
Is shilajit safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Due to limited safety data and potential for contaminants in non-tested products, major medical guidance is to avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless your healthcare provider clearly recommends otherwise.
Does shilajit really support hormones and testosterone?
In men, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (250 mg twice daily, 90 days) showed increases in total and free testosterone and DHEAS. Evidence in women is limited; benefits are more likely related to mineral/fulvic support and cellular energy. PubMedWiley Online Library
What minerals are naturally found in shilajit?
We tested our shilajit for minerals! I have yet to see other companies do this - see above to learn more about the minerals we tested!
How is your shilajit sourced and processed?
We source high-altitude, traditionally harvested shilajit that is then purified and standardized before encapsulation. Every batch undergoes third-party testing for identity, potency (fulvic acid), heavy metals, and microbes, with COAs on file. This addresses the major risks found in unpurified or untested materials.
Why is quality sourcing so important when it comes to shilajit?
Because shilajit is a wild-sourced, variable raw material. Published analyses show occasional heavy metal contamination, making verified origin, purification, and third-party testing non-negotiable.
